Leave a Written Testimony for Your Children

Journal Have you noticed how quickly children grow? Sometimes we don't, unless we begin to look back at pictures or videos. Oh it happens so fast.

A few years ago I had this idea, I don't know, it was probably the Holy Spirit, to create prayer journals for each of my children. What I do is journal down a prayer for them about once a week.  In my prayer I'll thank God for specific things He is doing in that child's life. I also include areas I need help in mothering that child.

My goal for creating these journals was not only to remain connected and accountable to God on behalf of my children, but also to have a written testimony of how God worked in each of my children's lives as they grow up.

I pray for each child (in the journal) a different day of the week. So I pray for my daughter Gabriella each Monday, and my son Benjamin each Tuesday, and so on. Right now I fill up 5 days (with five children), but with the upcoming adoption, another day (or two) will be filled and my heart will be overflowing (even more!!)

Eventually these will be their own keepsakes.

So, how do you know what to pray each week?

There are several tools out there to help you decide on this. Three that I know of are

  1. A Mother's Prayer Calendar - by Kat of Inspired To Action (free download)
  2. The Power of a Praying Parent - by Stormie Omartian
  3. Praying the Scriptures for Your Children - by Jodie Berndt

But also, simply remain tuned into your children and their needs and it won't be too hard to figure out what to pray.

I also think it's important to pray for their future. Oh friends, never underestimate the power of prayer! It doesn't come back void, even if you can't see the answers right away.

What a privilege it is to pray on behalf of our children. A privilege and a sacrifice it is to stand in the gap for our young blessings who have no one else to fight for them. Let us not be too quick to take this lightly.

Have you ever kept a prayer journal for your children?

DaySpring has beauitful journals.
