Sparkly Green Earrings

Sparkly Green Earrings isn't a book I would have normally picked up. However, all my blogging mama peeps kept tweeting and writing Facebook statuses stating how fabulous (and funny) it was. I added it to my Amazon wish list. Next thing I know, it's free for Kindle. Holla!

I'm not against memoirs. I've read a few. Actually, I'm starting to like them more and more. They are way more personal and offer reality mixed with truth. Whereas your straight up non-fiction books on parenting and motherhood can just leave you feeling like a failure based on all the things you aren't doing "right." So this was definitely a breath of fresh air. Not because Melanie airs out her dirty laundry in it. But because she's simply authentic about her struggles and offers nuggets of wisdom here and there. Things she's learned. Not things she's pointing at other people to learn.

She talks about her life before having her daughter, her expectations and dreams and how they were shattered by reality. But then? Her life was remade into something more beautiful then she could have imagined. Even with each step of releasing her daughter in new ways: preschool, kindergarten, first grade.

She talks about her potty training adventure and it's collide with the preschool her daughter attended. Seriously, I don't want to give it all away. It's really good and it's one of the few books that I just couldn't put down.

It was something I needed in this particular season of motherhood because it helped me learn to lighten up and laugh with my children.

So, thank you Melanie, for writing this beautiful memoir to share with us. It is a gift for my mama heart.

I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of Sparkly Green Earrings and reading it at your earliest convenience.
