Joy in Mothering

Do you find joy a difficult fruit to exhibit? Often I tend to do things backwards. I wake up in the morning determined to begin the day with a joyful attitude. Yet, I stumble into the kitchen, eyes half open, and head straight for the coffee pot. I am greeted with the demands of dependent, hungry, little people. If you are not a morning person, you know where this is going. The day has barely begun and already I’ve allowed the demands of life to steal my joy, simply because I wasn’t prepared. I begrudgingly make my children the easiest breakfast on the planet: cold cereal. I then proceed to the couch, coffee in hand, as I attempt to talk myself into being a joyful mother that day.
